Lancaster and Morecambe Asylum and Refugee Support
Lancaster and Morecambe Asylum and Refugee Support (LMARS) is a project of Marsh Community Centre. LMARS provides legal, health and housing support to asylum seekers and refugees within the district. It is affiliated to Lancaster and Morecambe City of Sanctuary. We do this by providing volunteers to visit and assist newly arrived asylum seekers, and also by running drop-in sessions at the Marsh Community Centre.
LMARS house volunteers help newly arrived asylum seekers to settle in the area. We help them to find their way around the city and to access healthcare services, and signpost them to other services such as English classes and drop-in sessions. We continue to support the asylum seekers through the process of claiming asylum, and help with any problems that arise.
These are held from 10am until 3pm, Monday-Thursday at the Marsh Community Centre. We provide support and information, and assist with finding sources of legal advice. We deal with queries that arise from correspondence from the Home Office or other official bodies.
